If you're in the market for a beautiful film, you can't do better than "Memoirs of a Geisha," surely the hands-down winner for the year's most gorgeous film.

The film explores a world most westerners know little about - that of the geisha.

The plot follows young Chiyo,sold by her poverty-stricken parents to a Kyoto geisha house as a servant. Chiyo is mistreated, but a chance kindness from a man on the street inspires her to become a geisha and make him her patron.

It is, at base, a simple romantic story, without a scintilla of suspense: the title gives it away. If the story's predictability and 145-minute length aren’t enough to sink it, emotional distance may be: the story never involves, due both to the one-dimensionality of most of the characters and to the fact that not only are the three major actresses Asian, they are required to speak English, which they do with varying success. Two are Chinese ,Zhang and Li Gong, who plays a successful geisha threatened by Zhang; Michelle Yeoh, who takes Chiyo under her wing, is Malaysian. All have problems with the language.

But the film’s saving grace is Dione Beebe’s stunning cinematography, which convincingly transforms a set in Ventura County into various Japanese locations. Beebe’s use of light and shadow sets the mood better, in some cases, than the screenplay and actors do.

Zhang, Yeow and Gong are convincing despite the language handicap. Special recognition goes to Zhang who, after six weeks at “geisha boot camp,” manages to dance gracefully wearing sandals with 8-inch heels.

“Memoirs of a Geisha,” a dramatic miss, is nonetheless worth seeing for the visual feast it provides.

You've heard all about it. You've read about all of the awards it has won. You've even seen a review or two about how good it is, but some people still wonder if they want to see a movie with two gay cowboys. It's a subject not everyone is comfortable with, but Brokeback Mountain, if you are willing to give it a chance, is an emotional, heartbreaking movie.

Heath Ledger stars as Ennis Del Mar - a young cowboy raised by his siblings when Mom and Dad tragically died. In the summer of 1963, he finds work guarding sheep in Wyoming. A rodeo cowboy, Jack Twist (Jake Gyllenhaal), is his co-worker, and the two form a strong friendship while up on Brokeback Mountain all alone (except for the sheep).

One night,

they get a little drunk,

get a little lonely,

exchange some meaningful glances over the fire,

and need to share the same tent to fight off the cold.

With their guard let down, Ennis and Jack share a night of passion, which leads to a secret, loving, heart wrenching 20-year relationship that threatens their marriages, livelihoods and place in society.

Will Jack and Ennis finally admit their love and share a life together? Who will discover their secret? What will they lose?

Say what you will about the premise, but no one can dismiss the amazing performance put in by Ledger. He is outright awesome as we see him portray Ennis's deeply painful struggle to deny his feelings for Jack due to the way he was brought up, incidents in his past, the marriage he has to Alma (Michelle Williams) and his fear about being an outcast from society. Ledger shows us how the laconic, conflicted cowboy comes to life around his new love, and the battle to fight off great, but forbidden, passion. He is like a young Clint Eastwood looking meaningfully across the lake at the huge mountains rising in the distance, bursting out in anger to hide his fear and, ultimately, regretting some of the biggest decisions of his life in the poignant closing scenes. Gyllenhaal is very good as the wide-eyed optimist who wants to run away into the sunset with his true love, and I was blown away by Williams as the wife who feels heartbreak as she starts to pick up on Jack and Ennis's "fishing trips" and the resulting confusion and sadness as she tries to cope with the awkward situation, but Brokeback Mountain is Ledger's career-making movie guided by director Ang Lee's magnificent hand.

Lee adds a loving, tender touch to the movie avoiding exploitation and salaciousness to bring us an epic, complex and painful love affair that stirs your emotions, whether you want to let it or not. He mixes beautiful shots of the open country and dusty Texas flatlands with deeply intimate one-on-one scenes between the various actors in Brokeback Mountain.

It's an amazing job,Lee doesn't do enough to give us a feel for how many years have passed between all of the scenes. We have to follow the age of Ennis's children and Jack's changing facial hair and sideburns to determine what year it might be, but I am horrible at guessing the age of children, and I'm far from an expert in the history of hair styles (Do I look like Vidal Sassoon?), so a little help would have been welcome. Also, I think Lee let the movie go a bit too long after giving us Brokeback Mountain's natural climactic scene that resolves the relationship between Jack and Ennis in the most memorable way possible. Instead, he brings back Ennis's daughter who has been fairly ignored throughout the movie, so I don't know why Lee felt the need to wrap up anything between her and Ennis.

Finally, I know some may be concerned about possible graphic scenes, but the concerns are unfounded. While we do see kissing and simulated sex acts, the only nudity in Brokeback Mountain is from Ann Hathaway  and Michelle Williams. Just remember, the movie is rated R, so you should expect some adult themes and situations.

Brokeback Mountain could be a front running Oscar contender come January and February, and it's on my list of the best movies of the year.

Well, well, finally Spring Festival comes, people in the new century and modern industries are seemed far from the tradition and custom which rooted deeply in the previous FARMING society----except in some remote countryside and hamlets, no one make Niangao or other traditional food by themselves, married daughters are reluctant to pay a formal visit to the parents, nephews forget to knock at the uncle’s door on the early morning of the first day of New Year. Besides many rituals are fading from people’s memory. But the happy colors of Spring Festival still exists and stands to be the most obvious traits of the special occasion.

 

Happy colors are mostly range from red, yellow, golden yellow, orange, pink, etc. Traditionally, people regard themselves as the descendents of the dragon, which is described to be covered with yellow color. So, the happy colors including yellow color are auspicious symbols. People usually make new clothes for New Year, the color of red, purple are most favorable. Wearing clothes in happy colors are the biggest pride in old China. Besides, the traditional couplets on the both sides of the door are written on the dark-red paper, which could greatly add the auspicious and festive atmosphere. So are the paintings for the New Year, which are mostly based on the topic of happiness and the wishes of long life, health. In my city, people even like to add a big red brush-drop on the snow-white Niao Gao or other traditional food. Moreover, people use red paper to wrap food.

 

Happy colors, I presume, are inclusive of other activities in the Spring Festival. Audio and visual effects are closely connected. The examples mentioned above are visual effects, while the setting-off of firecrackers and fireworks, the performance of traditional opera are from the position of audio effect. Without fireworks and firecrackers, the festive atmosphere of new year would be reduced, so it the enthusiasm of our citizens. The setting-off and the loud sound make the new year more merry and exultant. Also, the performance of traditional opera, through audio-visional effect by means of singing or recitation accompanied by traditional musical instruments, conveys the happiness of life.

    《神话》同样以梦开始，梦境和现实交相辉映。梦里的那位神勇将军，梦里的那位清丽女子，以及梦里的刀光剑影、万丈柔情……

    于我来说，《神话》是让我失望的，它未能带给我太多的震撼和感动，很多情节是多元的综合体，缺少新意，甚至分量较重的在印度杰克和玛里卡与警察一逃一追的戏，也只是在彰示着成龙一贯的滑稽打斗风格。那么，到底是什么在吸引着我们呢？

    是承诺，是等待。

    是的，是因为那横贯前年、无怨无悔的爱情等待。

    也许蒙毅和玉树的相遇，本身就是上天设定的缘，而他们所遭遇的重重波折，从山崖上跌下、差点在水中淹死、在冰天雪地中冻僵，以至于最后的离别与承诺，也只是他们爱情的经历与考验，而只因为经受了这些，才有了千年不变的等待。

今天有人问我这样的一个问题，

来个浅显的例子

中国的军队每个作战单位都有配备着政委，美国的军队每个作战单位都配备着随军牧师。

中国的军人随时做好为祖国为人民，为党牺牲。

美国的军人随时做好为国家为人民牺牲，做好被为神的使命所召唤。

信仰是什么，回到原点。

就是在人受到各种挑战和危难的时候除了哭天抢地，叫爹喊娘之外那个一直喃喃的称谓。

亦或是神，亦或是佛，又或者是上帝。

信仰是信仰，亦或灵，亦或不灵。

要是次次都灵，就不是信仰了。

       韩国首都“Seoul”的中文名称1月19日正式从“汉城”改为“首尔”，叫了这么多年的“汉城”，就要从中国的文件中消失了。
　　表面看来，汉城改名是为了与国际接轨。汉城市李明博市长说：中国人将Washington称为华盛顿、将London称为伦敦、将Moscow称为莫斯科，都是用与这些词的发音接近的汉语来标记的，只有Seoul仍按照古代名称将之称为汉城，这引起了很大的混乱。
　　这个理由有些牵强。中国中学的地理课本就明确告诉大家：韩国的首都是汉城，但凡有点文化的人都知道这一点。最大的麻烦是在学英文的时候，人们往往难以把Seoul与汉城对应起来，但这也不过是中国人自己的麻烦而已。
　　汉城改名为首尔，其根在民族主义。其实，类似的“去汉语化”举动在韩国已经进行了多年。在韩国，关于是否保留汉字、保留多少汉字的争端就从来没有断过，最近的一次是2004年12月21日，韩国决定将现行759项法律文本中混用的汉字标记方式全部以韩文取代。“去汉语化”的程度，与韩国实力的提高、与韩国领导人的风格、与韩国不同派别的角力，甚至与中韩关系，都息息相关。
　　令人担忧的是，汉城的更名，还可能从一个侧面凸显了中国“软实力”的不足。自古以来受中华文化深刻影响的邻国更改了地名，说明中华文化的吸引力在西方文化面前进一步弱化。
　　我国经济快速发展，实力稳步上升，但在文化方面的软实力提升却远不能与经济实力匹配。东南亚的青少年可以为F4疯狂，可以崇拜香港的电影明星，韩国的电视台也几乎每天都播放港台电视剧，但大陆文化产品在国外的影响力却相对不足。在亚洲，港台文化影响大；在全球范围内，许多人把日本文化当成了东方文化的代表。当年的中国是“上国天朝”，实际上是灿烂的文化和文明具有强大的吸引力。到现在，我们只有先发扬光大自己的传统文化，并图创新，才能真正具备吸引力。
　　韩国和中国同属东亚文化圈，历史上受中华文化影响很大。然而在当今欧美文明盛行于世、占据主流的情况下，韩国摆脱或减少中国文化的影响、走文化独立的道路，也无可厚非。问题是我们该如何应对。中国的外交工作向来奉行互相尊重、互不干涉内政的政策。一个国家给自己的城市改名，属于“内政”，自然不可干涉；但这个“内政”又要影响到中国的方方面面，涉外机构的文件、旅行社、教育部门等，都要做一系列变动，因而又似乎不是纯粹的“内政”。
　　对汉城的改名，中国首先应该予以理解：韩国以前曾是中国的属国，但现在两国是平等的伙伴。在理解的基础上，中国也应该支持。中国在执行“以邻为伴、与邻为善”的政策，没必要在一个城市的命名上闹出不愉快的事情。
　　另外，名字只是一个符号，过分在意，反而是不自信的表现。正如我们没必要让人家把“Chinese”改为“Chinan(英语里面国名加“n”是褒义的称呼该国人，加ese含贬义)”，但可以通过自己的努力让“Chinese”这个词变成褒义，变成令人敬重的一个词。在这方面，黑人应该受到尊重，最初他们被称为“Negro”，“Black”是贬义词，但他们在争取民权的过程中，理直气壮地告诉世人“我就是Black”，久而久之，“Black”成了褒义词，“Negro”反而成了贬义词。
　　从这个意义上说，汉城改名并不重要，重要的是韩国实力的提升；中国人管“Seoul”叫什么也不重要，重要的是“Seoul”在我们心目中是什么形象。

     不管怎么样，汉城已经成为了回忆，成为了中国一相情愿还依稀停留在韩国是中国附属邻邦的一个美好的回忆中。
